Kenya announces second Ebola death, says ‘no evidence’ of community spread
Kenya's health authorities have reported a second death from Ebola as the regional outbreak keeps widening. Alongside the fatality, officials moved quickly to say there is no evidence of the virus spreading within Kenyan communities. Their position is that cases so far have surfaced through contact tracing rather than turning up by chance among the general public. The outbreak has now reached four countries, with infections reported in eastern, central and western Africa. A spread across that much of the continent makes coordination between national health teams harder and stretches screening capacity at borders. Contact tracers are continuing to follow up with anyone who may have spent time near confirmed patients. Officials have indicated that any sign of community transmission would force them to change their assessment of the situation.
