Majority of parents and youths prefer tiered access to social media over outright ban: MDDI
Most parents and young people in Singapore do not want a blanket ban on social media, according to findings from the Ministry of Digital Development and Information. The ministry's engagement exercise gathered views from more than 2,000 parents and youths on their experiences online. Excessive use came up as one of the top concerns raised during the sessions. Instead of an outright prohibition, the majority favored tiered access, where limits depend on a user's age. Under such a system, rules would tighten for younger users while older teens keep broader access. The feedback gives the ministry a picture of what families actually want from online safety rules. For now, the signal is clear: households prefer guidance and graduated limits over a total cut-off.
