A student at the University of Lagos has recounted a robbery that nearly cost him more than his belongings. Oriji Perfection, a 300-level student, was stopped at gunpoint in the Gbagada area of Lagos by men who took his phone and his laptop. The threats that followed were what frightened him most. His attackers told him they would kill him and set him up as a cultist, an accusation that can put a Nigerian student in serious danger. He described the ordeal in an interview with The Punch, recalling the fear of being linked to campus cult activity for no reason at all. The incident gives another glimpse of armed robbery on Lagos streets. It also shows how a victim of crime can be turned, in a matter of threats, into a suspect.
