The spread of wars, in his view, drains resources and attention away from the fixes ordinary people need. His message was to tackle the inequality head on and stop conflicts before they burn wider. The UN chief has warned repeatedly that a world divided between the comfortable and the desperate cannot stay stable for long. His words land at a moment when several regions face the double pressure of fighting and rising living costs.
