Lawyer Idajet Beqiri has accused Sali Berisha, the head of the Democratic Party, of attempting to seize power through violence. During an appearance on ABC News, Beqiri claimed that the opposition is using methods similar to a gang to achieve its goals. He stated that current protests do not truly represent the citizens or students. According to Beqiri, these actions are part of an effort to overthrow the government. He compared the current political tension to the events of 1997 in Albania.
