Jean-Luc Mélenchon, leader of La France Insoumise and a candidate in the presidential election, urged French President Emmanuel Macron to respond to the demands of protesters. Speaking at a demonstration in Paris on Saturday, he warned that social mobilization could continue and might turn into a general strike starting on 5 November. He said the weekly protests should push the executive branch to review its position.
