Bulgaria is holding a presidential election that pits the pro‑Russian interim president Jotova against challenger Gjurov. Early results show the incumbent maintaining a narrow lead. Poll observers noted that the margin is smaller than many analysts had anticipated before the vote. Both candidates have attracted significant attention from domestic and foreign observers. Election officials have warned that the close numbers may require a second round of voting. A runoff is expected to be scheduled for the following week if no candidate reaches the required threshold.
