KPMG-GIPS 2026 Procurement Enhancement Survey: 86% of respondents say procurement fraud occurs in their organisations
A survey by KPMG-GIPS found that 86 percent of respondents report procurement fraud within their organizations. The data shows improvements in procurement governance and better awareness of anti-fraud policies. Monitoring, investigation processes, and performance measurement have also strengthened. Despite these gains, fraud remains a persistent risk. Organizations are encouraged to integrate fraud risk assessments into their management frameworks. They should regularly check control effectiveness and report to executive management and the board.
The 2026 survey indicated improvements in procurement governance, including stronger awareness of anti-fraud policies, procurement monitoring, investigation processes and performance measurement. However, fraud remains a persistent risk, highlighting the need for organisations to embed fraud risk assessments into enterprise risk management frameworks, regularly assess the effectiveness of procurement controls and strengthen oversight through periodic reporting to executive management and the board.
