Ghana risks industrial stagnation unless its universities and research institutions start turning scientific discoveries into practical solutions for business, according to the country's Environment, Science and Technology Minister, Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings. She believes the gap between academic research and commercial application is holding the nation back. In her view, that disconnect limits Ghana's ability to convert scientific knowledge into industrial growth, job creation and economic development. The minister issued the warning at the opening of the 2026 Oliver Reginald Tambo Chairs Initiative Conference, known as ORTARChI. The event took place at the West African Genetic Medicine Centre, which sits within the University of Ghana at Legon. Her remarks framed scientific research as a resource that stays unused until it actually reaches industry.
