Europe's dream of cheap electricity from the desert is getting another chance. A cable stretching 4,800 kilometres is meant to carry solar and wind power from Morocco to Germany. The link would bring energy generated from the Moroccan sun and wind straight to the German market. At the same time, power grids around the Mediterranean are growing together. The twin efforts mark a renewed push to make desert renewables a real source of affordable power for Europe.
