South Africa: Luxury Lodge Fined R15-Million for Flouting Environmental Laws
Full story
The Goats Window luxury safari lodge constructed 23 accommodation units near Bonnievale. Authorities found that the development proceeded without the required environmental authorisation. The lodge also cleared approximately 4,000 square metres of renosterveld, a vegetation type classified as endangered. As a result, regulators imposed a fine of 15 million South African rand on the operator. The penalty reflects enforcement of South Africa’s environmental protection laws.
