Islamic tradition names eighteen people who bore a physical resemblance to the Prophet Muhammad. Several of them were companions who lived alongside him in his lifetime. Accounts also mention figures from before his era and after it who shared his features. The likenesses recorded by his followers remain one of the few sketches of how he looked.
