Around 1,400 residents of Astana are due to begin compulsory military service in Kazakhstan this year. Of that number, 190 conscripts will join the Border Service of the KNB, the national security committee. The assignment means a share of the capital's young men will serve on the frontier rather than in standard units. The distribution was announced as part of the current draft campaign.
