A human rights organization said it verified that the Houthi militia released prisoners in Ibb, Dhamar and Sanaa in exchange for joining its ranks and fighting on combat fronts, especially in Taiz. The Rasd Organization for Rights and Freedoms called the practice a serious exploitation of detainees’ situation and economic hardship. It criticized the releases as using prisoners’ vulnerability for military recruitment.
