A turmeric-like plant called 'Pani Besare' found in the Charkose forest in Sunsari has been confirmed as a new genus for Nepal. It carries a story of continental displacement and evolution dating back millions of years. The plant has an unusual explosive pollination system and medicinal properties, and the find is described as new in Nepali plant science.
