A mega-operation carried out across several regions of the country has ended with 12 people detained over suspected migrant smuggling and manipulation of migration records. Those held under preliminary detention include police authorities and officials from the Migrations office. Investigators say the suspects collected bribes of up to 300 dollars to make it easier for minors to leave the country through irregular channels. They are also accused of altering the registry entries of foreign citizens. The crackdown was a joint effort involving both police and prosecutors.
La operación policial y fiscal -realizada en diversas regiones del país- dejó como saldo la detención preliminar de autoridades policiales y de Migraciones. Los intervenidos habrían cobrado sobornos de hasta 300 dólares para facilitar la salida irregular de menores y alterar el registro de ciudadanos extranjeros.
