The European Commission approved the inclusion of a Slovak natural mineral water in the protected designation of origin register on Wednesday. The water comes from the Cigeľské springs in Slovakia. The same protection was granted to a Hungarian wine from the Sümeg region. Both products are now listed in the EU’s register of protected names. The register currently holds more than 3 900 protected designations. The decision gives the Slovak water exclusive rights to its geographical name within the EU market. It also ensures that the Hungarian wine can be marketed under its protected label.

Európska komisia (EK) v stredu schválila zápis Cigeľskej prírodnej minerálnej vody zo Slovenska do registra chránených označení pôvodu. Rovnakú ochranu získalo aj maďarské víno Sümeg/Sümegi. Register Európskej únie v súčasnosti zahŕňa viac ako 3 900 chránených názvov.
