Cameron urges Ramaphosa to fire Mchunu as state costs near R6 million
Full story
Cameron publicly called on South African President Ramaphosa to dismiss Mchunu. He argued that the cost to the state was approaching six million rand. The demand came after acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia told Parliament that the Justice Department had paid 2.7 million rand toward Mchunu’s legal fees. The disclosed legal expense formed a large part of the total amount being spent. Cameron’s statement linked the rising spending to concerns about accountability. He urged immediate action to remove Mchunu from his position.
The call follows acting Police Minister Firoz Cachalia’s disclosure to Parliament that the Justice Department has paid R2.7 million towards Mchunu’s legal fees.
