In the past day, the police registered four telephone fraud cases. Three of those incidents had occurred earlier but were only reported now by the victims. The total estimated loss from the scams exceeds half a million lei. One of the cases was filed in the capital city. Among the victims is a 37‑year‑old woman who lost close to 160,000 lei after callers pretended to be employees of the National Bank. The perpetrators claimed to represent the bank and lied to obtain money. The General Police Inspectorate announced the figures on 29 October.
