International relations expert Taj al-Din al-Husseini said Russia's veto of a US draft resolution on the Sahara was an unexpected turn in the file. He said the US draft would have moved the autonomy initiative from a theoretical framework to a stage of concrete implementation, amid growing international recognition of Morocco's sovereignty over the Sahara. His remarks were presented as looking ahead to what follows Resolution 2797.
