Climate change has increased the risk of glacial lake outbursts, avalanches and floods or landslides in the Himalayan region. The government has proposed lowering water levels in four glacial lakes in Manang, Sankhuwasabha and Solukhumbu as part of disaster risk reduction. The plan also includes expanding an early warning system.
