This announcement came ahead of a Commonwealth summit in the Caribbean. During the event, he may face demands for financial reparations. The leader indicated a willingness to address the apology but did not commit to payments.
Britský premiér Andy Burnham vyhlásil, že je ochotný zvážiť žiadosti o oficiálne ospravedlnenie za historickú úlohu Británie v oblasti otroctva. Uviedol to pred budúcotýždňovým summitom Spoločenstva národov (Commonwealth) v Karibiku, na ktorom by sa mohol stretnúť aj s požiadavkami na finančné odškodnenie.
