Swedish half-marathon world champion Andreas Almgren won the New York City Marathon in his first attempt at the distance. He finished with a time of 2:06:01. Almgren is the first European to win the race since 1996. He also holds European records for the 5,000 meters on the track and the half-marathon. In the women's race, Kenya's Sheila Chepkirui took first place.

Evropský rekordman na 5000 metrů na dráze a v půlmaratonu zvítězil v čase 2:06:01 hodiny, v New Yorku dokázal triumfovat jako první rodák z Evropy od roku 1996.
