A 20-year-old woman was admitted to the ophthalmology clinic at the Sf. Spiridon Emergency Clinical Hospital in Iași in serious condition. She had used colored contact lenses purchased for 30 lei from the internet. The patient reported seeing very little after using the lenses. Doctors later discovered that the lenses were contaminated with bacteria.
