In October 2026, a group of university professors called for the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama. They requested the formation of a caretaker government through a petition. The document also condemned violence directed at students. Roughly 1,473 signatures were collected for the petition. This represents a small fraction of the approximately 10,000 academic staff members in Albania.
