The World In Progress forum is offering hope as its answer to the threats hanging over the European Union. Its guiding idea pitches a European recipe against the uncertainties of a hostile world. Part of that answer lies beyond Europe's borders. The forum argues for a stronger connection between the EU and Latin America. Closer ties with the region are presented as a way to steady the union in a rough stretch. Hope, in the forum's framing, is the starting point for dealing with the pressures the bloc faces.
