State of Mexico officials have established penalties for animal cruelty that can reach up to 11 years in prison. Punishable actions include abandoning animals on public roads and causing malnutrition through negligence. Overcrowding is also subject to sanction. Organizing or taking part in dog fights is illegal. Any form of physical violence against animals is prohibited.
Entre las conductas sujetas a sanción se encuentran el abandono en la vía pública, la desnutrición provocada por negligencia, el hacinamiento, la organización o participación en peleas de perros y cualquier manifestación de violencia física.
