Bangladesh’s government announced a six-member wage board to revise the minimum wage after violent protests by garment workers. Workers have demanded wages more than two and a half times higher, putting pressure on the government. The garment industry is described as the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy. There is no sign yet that the workers’ anger and dissatisfaction will ease.
