Democrat Abdul (Abdulrahman) al-Sayed announced Wednesday morning that he won a U.S. Senate seat from Michigan, defeating Republican Mike Rogers. The victory makes him the first Muslim elected to the upper chamber of Congress. In a speech at his campaign headquarters in Detroit, he said 'We did it' and that he was very proud and honored to stand there as senator-elect.
