Actress and comedian Hesti Purwadinata has drawn public attention by joining the battle against forest and land fires as a hands-on volunteer. The blazes, known in Indonesia as karhutla, are the fires she went to help handle. Describing the conditions, she said the flames are stubborn, flaring back up even after being doused with water. Her direct involvement in the firefighting effort is what caught the public's eye.
