On 3 November 2026 the United Nations General Assembly met in a plenary session that was held simultaneously with the Security Council. During that meeting the Assembly elected five new judges to serve on the International Court of Justice, the principal judicial organ of the UN. The election was conducted under agenda item 117 c) of the organization’s 81st session. The newly chosen judges will join the existing bench of the Court to hear cases involving states and international law. The vote was recorded as part of the official proceedings of both bodies.
