A lawyer argued that the 384 billion dong judgment for money laundering should be examined more closely. She said that part of the sum was money and gold that Nguyen Thanh Tam merely kept for her boyfriend. According to the lawyer, Nguyen Thanh Tam had no knowledge that the assets were derived from criminal activity. Because of that, the lawyer believes those holdings should be separated from the laundering conviction. She also requested that the assets Nguyen Thanh Tam purchased with the held money be returned to her. The request aims to recover property that she claims she acquired independently.
