An international scientific meeting was held in Kastav to mark the 160th anniversary of the first Croatian reading room in the Pokrajina Istria with Kvarner Islands region. The event focused on the renaissance, political, and legal history of the Kastav region. The gathering noted that people in Kastav were rewarded for reporting trash as far back as the year 1400, while Rijeka is only now starting this practice.
KASTAV – U povodu 160. obljetnice osnutka prve hrvatske čitalnice u Pokrajini Istri s Kvarnerskim otocima, u Kastvu je održan međunarodni znanstveni skup pod nazivom “Čitalnica u Kastvu i odjeci njezina rada: preporoditeljska, politička i pravna povijest Kastavštine”.
