Azerbaijan's victory in the Karabakh war in 2020 changed the balance of power in the South Caucasus. After several weeks of fighting, Azerbaijani troops regained control of several territories lost in the 1990s. For 44 days, Azerbaijani troops, advancing every day, liberated one occupied region after another: Jabrayil, Fuzuli, Zangilan, Gubadli and, finally, Shusha. Azerbaijan's victory was the result of many years of efforts, both on the diplomatic and military fronts. The country has successfully exposed Armenia's aggressive policy, which has caused a resonance in the international community. The victorious operation codenamed "Iron Fist" demonstrated the high tactical training and discipline of the Azerbaijani army. As a result, on November 10, 2020, Armenia signed an Act of Surrender, admitting defeat.
