FUNCIONÁRIOS PÚBLICOS FANTASMAS VOTAM NO MPLA
Angola's government, led by the MPLA, which has held power for 50 years, announced that retired and deceased civil servants are still recorded as active in the public service database. The authorities admitted the existence of more than 31,000 'fictitious or ghost' public employees. The information was delivered by Teresa Rodrigues Dias, the Minister of Public Administration, Labour and Social Security, who noted that the personnel in question carries a cost to the state. The outlet Jornal Folha 8 framed the report with a satirical headline suggesting ghost public servants vote for the MPLA. The article quoted President João Lourenço's repeated line that the MPLA 'did more in 50 years than the Portuguese in 500,' adding sarcastically that he is indeed right. It also referred to Lourenço as the 'non-elected president,' reflecting the publication's critical view of the ruling party. The report was first published by Jornal Folha 8.
