Baffour Awuah explains why he reported himself to EOCO after arrest warrant

The Member of Parliament for Manhyia South, Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, says he would not have ignored an invitation from the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), but insists he had not received any invitation from the agency. He said he was therefore surprised to see the Deputy Attorney General, Dr Justice Srem-Sai, announce on social media that EOCO had secured an arrest warrant for him. According to Baffour Awuah, the Deputy Attorney General’s post also indicated that he had been invited several times but failed to appear.

RANA warns Salomey Bafoh case could have chilling effect on free expression

The Rights Accountability Network Africa (RANA) has raised concerns about the human-rights implications of the arrest, detention and prosecution of senior nursing officer Salomey Awiti Bafoh, warning that the case could have a chilling effect on freedom of expression in Ghana. In a statement, the organisation said its concern went beyond whether Ms Bafoh is ultimately convicted or acquitted, focusing instead on the wider implications of how speech-related offences are investigated and prosecuted. Article 21(1)(a) of Ghana’s 1992 Constitution guarantees freedom of speech and expression.

Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has called for greater efforts to ensure girls and young women have equal opportunities to participate in Ghana’s technology-driven future. She said digital skills were becoming increasingly important as technology continued to reshape education, employment, business and other sectors of the economy. The Vice President made the call at the graduation ceremony of the fifth cohort of the Heritage and Cultural Society of Africa Foundation’s (HACSA) Tech4Girls programme in Accra on Tuesday, September 29. The ceremony saw 80 young women graduate from the programme and formed part of activities marking HACSA’s 10th anniversary.
