China and the European Union have committed to continuing their talks in an effort to bring down trade tensions. Both sides confirmed jointly that they intend to keep up the dialogue and strengthen consultations on trade matters. The stated aim is to stop disagreements over commerce from turning into a wider conflict. The pledge comes even though the two sides still have open points of friction. In recent years their disputes have touched on electric vehicle tariffs and market access for foreign companies. Working-level negotiations and summit meetings have kept channels open despite those rows. The two economies are tied together through supply chains, which gives both an incentive to avoid escalation. What matters now is whether the renewed promises produce concrete agreements rather than another round of statements.
