Thailand's foreign ministry has pushed back against Cambodian claims that the United States told Bangkok to stop invading Cambodia. The Cambodian side had suggested Washington pressured Thailand to halt military action against Cambodian territory. In a press statement dated October 8, 2026, the ministry said Cambodia had distorted the meaning of the American message. A ministry spokesman added that Thailand never raised the Cambodian border issue in the talks referenced by Phnom Penh. The spat adds a diplomatic layer to a border dispute that has flared repeatedly in recent years. Phnom Penh has been seeking international sympathy over the frontier, while Bangkok prefers to treat the matter as strictly bilateral. Both governments keep trading accusations even as they discuss ways to calm the situation.
