The Dundalk Sub Aqua Search and Rescue Club trains divers who stand ready to help when people go missing in local waters. Its members volunteer their free time for underwater searches along the coast and in nearby lakes and waterways. Training sessions keep their diving sharp, alongside the specialised skills that rescue work demands. Boats and dive gear have to be maintained year round, regardless of weather. Calls often come at short notice, so readiness matters more than anything else the club does. Like similar units around Ireland, it supports the emergency services when an underwater search is needed. Fundraising covers much of the running costs, since equipment never comes cheap. New members are welcomed and brought up through the ranks, keeping the crew of volunteers going.
