Ukrainian soldiers say they used a drone to evacuate a wounded comrade from the front line, and their brigade claims it was the first such case in the world. The aircraft involved was a heavy hexacopter made by Gurzuf Defence, a Ukrainian company. According to the brigade, the firm handed the drone over free of charge. Moving casualties by vehicle or helicopter along the front has become extremely dangerous because evacuation routes stay under constant fire. Drones have long been used to drop grenades and carry supplies, but lifting a wounded person out is a further step. If the claim is confirmed, the operation would be a first in modern warfare. The brigade gave no details about the soldier's condition or the distance he was flown. Other units will now watch whether the method can be repeated on a wider scale.
