The European Parliament has approved updated EU rules on air passenger rights. Among the changes, passengers would be entitled to a refund for a cancelled flight within 14 days. The rules also strengthen protections and clarify what airlines must tell passengers when a journey is disrupted. MPs backed the proposal by 652 votes to two, with eight abstaining. The measure still requires formal approval from the Council of the EU. Once that step is completed, the new passenger protections would apply from 23 October 2027. The implementation date gives airlines and passengers time to prepare for the refund and information requirements.
