More than 140 members of Serbia's security sector have appealed to their colleagues to defend citizens and serve the state rather than political parties or individuals. The appeal, published by the Belgrade Center for Security Policy, focuses on conduct during election day. Former BIA director Sasha Vukadinović and former Special Anti-Crime Unit commander Spasoje Vulević are among the signatories. Former police director Vladimir Rebić also signed the statement. The authors want security personnel to prevent violence on election day. They also warn against intimidating voters and committing election abuses. The statement reflects concern that security agencies may be pulled into partisan disputes during the vote. Its publication was intended to place institutional duty above party loyalty.
