Former Guyanese president Donald Ramotar has written an opinion column under the title Sovereignty Matters. The piece was last updated on October 28th, 2026. Its starting point is the runoff presidential election in Brazil, which President Lula won on October 25th. Ramotar observes that political commentators are all in awe at that victory. He goes on to describe the result as the first time a candidate who came second has gone on to take the runoff.
