Israeli police say they have arrested eight suspects over attacks on an American photojournalist and on European diplomats in the occupied West Bank. The force has not revealed the identities of those taken into custody. According to a foreign news agency, masked Israeli settlers carried out the violence, and Palestinians were targeted as well. Foreign nationals being among the victims gave the incidents extra weight, since journalists and visiting envoys normally move through the territory with some form of official protection. Nothing has been said about when the arrests took place or what charges the suspects might eventually face. The West Bank has seen repeated confrontations between settlers and Palestinians in recent years, and outsiders present in the area have also come under attack. The agency report runs on beyond the excerpt available, so the condition of those attacked and the diplomatic reaction are not yet clear.
