The Prosecutor's Office of Canton Sarajevo employs 41 prosecutors, and its records hold as many as 67,000 cases. Divided across the staff, that load comes to roughly 1,600 files apiece. The register spans offences of every severity, gathered through years of continuous intake. While working through the existing pile, the office also receives new criminal reports on a daily basis. Each fresh report demands some form of action, since complaints cannot legally be ignored. Prosecutors therefore split their attention between old matters waiting for resolution and new ones waiting to be opened. The numerical gap between headcount and caseload explains why decisions on many files take so long. For now the two figures stand as recorded, 41 prosecutors against 67,000 cases, with new reports arriving behind them.
