Hearing tests are set to become a mandatory part of preventive care in the Czech Republic. Under the plan, a general practitioner who suspects a problem will refer the patient to an ear, nose and throat specialist. The weak point is staffing, since ENT doctors are already in short supply. Czechs have long played down gradual hearing loss, and officials hope the new rules will change that.
