Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet used a public appearance on Saturday, 10 October to address the Cambodia-Thailand border issue. He said that Um Sam An, an opposition politician who has been living outside the country, is being given the chance to return home. The stated purpose of that return would be for Um Sam An to explain himself on the questions surrounding the border with Thailand. Hun Manet assured him that his safety would be guaranteed if he chose to come back. The announcement puts a formal channel on the table for a figure who has so far spoken only from abroad. Border questions between the two neighbours have stayed politically charged in recent times. Whether Um Sam An takes up the offer and travels back is now the outstanding question in the affair.
