Temporary road closure along Bartley Road on Oct 3 for bridge removal

If you are a frequent user of Bartley Road, take note: the stretch between Mount Vernon Road and Bidadari Park Drive will be closed for four-and-a-half hours on Oct 3.In a news release on Friday (Sept 25), the Housing and Development Board (HDB) said the temporary closure from 1am to 5.30am is to facilitate the removal of an old pedestrian overhead bridge near Bartley Christian Church.HDB said that pedestrians will not be affected, as a new pedestrian overhead bridge has been constructed nearby. Despite prior convictions, woman, 62, allegedly took part in 6 unpermitted public assemblies

A 62-year-old woman will be charged in court on Friday (Sept 25) for allegedly participating in six public assemblies without a permit, despite having previous convictions for similar offences.According to the Singapore Police Force (SPF), the woman was first convicted of participating in an unpermitted public assembly in 2001, followed by further convictions in 2005 and 2007.She was also issued a 12-month conditional warning in July 2020 for participating in a public assembly without a permit under Section 16(2)(a) of the Public Order Act.Despite these, she allegedly took part in six further unpermitted public assemblies between 2024 and 2026.The first of these six incidents took place on Oct 12, 2024, at Merlion Park.She was subsequently allegedly involved in similar incidents on June 25, Oct 10, Oct 25 and Nov 24 in 2025, as well as Feb 14, 2026.The woman will face six counts of participating in a public assembly without a permit under Section 16(2)(a) of the Public Order Act.If convicted, each offence carries a fine of up to $3,000.

On Aug 21, the 18-year-old Singaporean achieved the biggest lift of his career, breaking the world record with a 273kg deadlift at the International Powerlifting Federation (IPF) World Sub-Junior & Junior Powerlifting Championships 2026 in Sun City, South Africa.The previous world record stood at 271kg.Muhammad Hazrul, a second-year Temasek Polytechnic student studying Architectural Technology and Building Services, also finished second overall in his category with a total lift of 613kg — comprising a 220kg squat, 120kg bench press and 273kg deadlift.The record-breaking performance, however, came after a difficult start to the competition.One of his squat attempts was disqualified because he did not squat low enough, while he suffered severe cramps in his calves and arms during warm-up, Berita Harian (BH) reported.After his opening 260kg deadlift attempt, Muhammad Hazrul also vomited.

SAF participates in five-power defence exercise hosted by Malaysia

Heavy departure traffic at Woodlands Checkpoint on Sept 24, tailback from Malaysia

Travellers intending to enter Malaysia are advised that there is currently heavy departure traffic at Woodlands Checkpoint.This is due to traffic tailback from Malaysia, said the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) in a Facebook post at 10.02am on Thursday (Sept 24).Checks on the Land Transport Authority's (LTA) traffic cameras at 11am show the tailback is past the two-third mark of the Causeway.Meanwhile, traffic conditions along Woodlands Crossing and Woodlands Flyover appear to be normal.ICA added that delays are expected and advised travellers to check traffic conditions before embarking on their journey.Motorists are also reminded to abide by traffic laws and comply with ICA officers' instructions at Singapore's land checkpoints.During the September school holidays, a total of 27 motorists were caught for various traffic offences at Woodlands Checkpoint. Of these, 16 individuals were referred to the Traffic Police for further action.
