'It's not a numbers thing': Edwin Tong says OSC's goal is to learn from previous cases, stop them from happening

Rather than aiming to resolve more cases over time, the Online Safety Commission (OSC) should hope to lower the number of cases it handles by preventing repeated instances long-term, said Minister for Law Edwin Tong.Speaking at the Online Safety (Relief and Accountability) Act 2025 (OSRAA) partners' appreciation tea event on Wednesday (Sept 23), he reflected on the OSC's progress in the two months since it started.Since starting operations on June 29, the OSC received over 500 reports and resolved more than 90 per cent of eligible reports, Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo shared on Tuesday."I think that's very encouraging as we work together hand in hand to keep the online space safe," he said.He added: "These are still very early numbers. And I think beyond numbers, the more important question is what we do with what these numbers and stats are telling us."Tong also cautioned against measuring the OSC's success by looking at the number of cases resolved in isolation.

SUTD deputy manager who allegedly made over 180 fraudulent football facility bookings to be charged

SINGAPORE — A Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD) staff member who allegedly made more than 180 unauthorised bookings of the varsity’s football facilities is set to be charged on Sept 23.The police said on Sept 22 that they had received a report stating that the 41-year-old man had used his position as a deputy manager at the university to make the unauthorised bookings.Preliminary investigations found that the man had made the bookings over about three years, with the alleged improprieties coming to light on July 3, 2025.The fraudulent bookings resulted in a total revenue loss to SUTD of more than $130,000, said the police.The man is believed to have deleted records from the booking system in an attempt to conceal his actions.He will be charged in court for cheating and forgery. If found guilty, he could be jailed for up to four years, fined, or both.The police said they take a serious view of those who abuse their positions of trust to commit criminal offences, and will not hesitate to take firm action against those who blatantly disregard the law.[[nid:745756

PMD user 'races' down F1 Marina Bay Street Circuit without helmet, overtakes MPV

Works to get the Marina Bay Street Circuit ready for the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix are in the final stretch, and one personal mobility device (PMD) user decided to give it a try.A TikTok video reposted by social media page Sgfollowsall shows a male PMD user travelling down Esplanade Drive without a helmet.He appears to be riding at a speed in excess of 25kmh, based on the time he took to travel past two consecutive lamp posts.He is also seen overtaking a multi-purpose vehicle on his heavily modified PMD.Although the original TikTok video has since been taken down, checks by AsiaOne show that the account features at least two videos of two individuals riding modified PMDs down park connectors.A photo showing a speedometer reading in excess of 150kmh is also seen in one of the five posts.This is the latest case in over the past few months.
