Ambassador Yoshifumi Okamura, Ambassador for Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD. Asmara, 15 August 2019 - President Isaias Afwerki today, 15 August met and held talks with Japanese delegation led by H.E. Mr. Tetsuro Yano, Special Envoy of Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and President of Association of African Economy and Development (AFRECO) and H.E. Ambassador Yoshifumi Okamura, Ambassador for Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD). At the meeting conducted at State House, President Isaias Afwerki underlined Japan's important role in African development & the Horn of Africa in these auspicious times. President Isaias stated that Eritrea values the role of and encourages investment by private Japanese companies that enhance bilateral programmes of partnership. President Isaias and the Japanese delegation also discussed on potential cooperation grounds between the two countries in the sectors of education, fisheries, water and other infrastructure. The Japanese envoy for his part reiterated Japan’s readiness to promote and consolidate development cooperation with Eritrea and the region as a whole. The two sides also exchanged views on the 2019 Tokyo International Cooperation for African Development - TICAD Summit in that will be held towards the end of this month in Yokohama, Japan. At the meeting the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Osman Saleh was present.

The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare branch in the Gash Barka region organized a workshop on ensuring reinforced social welfare activities on 8 August. Barentu, 14 August 2019 – The Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare branch in the Gash Barka region organized a workshop on ensuring reinforced social welfare activities on 8 August. Indicating that stigma and discrimination and backward culture and harmful practices as well as low income are among the main causes for the negative consequences of the socio-economic condition of women, the disabled and elderly people, the experts of social welfare called for strengthening participation on the programs aimed at addressing the issues. Mr. Angelo Abatto, from the Social Welfare, on his part indicated that the Ministry of Labor and Social Welfare is exerting relentless effort in creating employment opportunities and supporting women so that they become self supportive and productive members of the society. Mr. Mebrahtu Gezai, head of Labor, stated that strong follow-up and measures are being taken to ensure employment opportunities and rights of females and the disabled in the Gash Barka region. The participants indicating that their knowledge on labor law is limited called for organizing sustainable similar workshops. Speaking at the conclusion of the workshop, the administrator of Teseney sub zone Mr. Seyum Gebreyesus indicating that supporting the disadvantaged and the disabled is one of the noble culture of the Eritrean people, called on the residents and administration of Teseney sub zone to strengthen contribution.

At a meeting conducted in Mendefera on 10 August call was made for providing due attention to non-communicable diseases. Mendefera, 13 August 2019- At a meeting conducted in Mendefera on 10 August call was made for providing due attention to non-communicable diseases. Speaking at the event, Dr. Emanuel Mehreteab, head of the Ministry of Health in the Southern region, indicated that the non-communicable diseases such as hypertension, cardiovascular, cancer, asthma, diabetics and others have been for long health concerns worldwide. Dr. Emanuel said that in the past six months the ministry has conducted praiseworthy activities in raising the awareness of the public on the causes and consequences of the non-communicable diseases. Indicating that even though integrated effort is being conducted to control the prevalence of malaria in the region, Dr Emanuel said that compared to that of last year the number of people infected by the disease is increasing and that was due to the heavy rainfall in the months of February and March. According to the report presented at the meeting 92% of those infected by TB have been cured and the vaccination coverage under 5 years of age was 84% and commendable environmental sanitation activities have been conducted. Calling on the health practitioners to coordinate effort to address the challenges being encountered, the Governor of the Southern region, Mr. Efrem Gebrekrstos expressed readiness that the regional administration and stakeholders will contribute due part. Indicating that the Ministry of Health is working to alleviate the shortages and challenges being encountered, Ms. Amina Nurhussen, Minister of Health said that due attention will be given to the supply of medicines and human resources. At the Southern region there are 60 health facilities ranging from referral hospital to health stations.

Asmara, 12 August 2019 – The Annual Eritrean community festival in the US was enthusiastically conducted in San Jose city, California, from 9-11 August, report indicates.At the festival that was officially opened by the Minister of Justice Ms. Fauzia Hashem, on 9 August was attended by thousands of nationals as well as friends of Eritrea.The three-day festival highlighted seminars on the objective situation in the homeland and regional developments, workshops, as well as cultural and artistic performances.The occasion featured artistic performances by Eritrean American comedian Tiffany Hadish, Eritrean American sisters, ‘Eri-Am Sisters’, a cultural troupe from Eritrea as well as other renowned artists.

Eritrean Festival 2019 will be held from 16 to 22 August at the Expo Grounds in Asmara under the theme “Resilience for Higher Progress”. Asmara, 10 August 2019- Eritrean Festival 2019 will be held from 16 to 22 August at the Expo Grounds in Asmara under the theme “Resilience for Higher Progress”. Mr. Zemede Tekle, Commissioner of Culture and Sports stated that all regions have finalized their preparation to participate in the national festival by displaying their resources and cultural diversity. Indicating that the national festival is expected to reflect the unity and diversity of the Eritrean people, Ambassador Zemede said that the festival will feature traditional villages depicting the cultures and traditions of the various ethnic groups in the country, cultural and music performance and competition, innovation and talent show, photo, paintings and sculptures exhibition, folklores, display of products by various institutions, children’s educational and entertaining programs, books display among others. Ambassador Zemede went on to say that necessary mechanism will be put in place so that the social service provision institutions provide visitors of the festival service with fair price.

The National Council of Eritrean Americans’ annual conference was enthusiastically opened on Wednesday, 7 August. The conference was continuing till today in the Bay Area, California under the themes “Consolidating our Future” and “Resilience for Higher Progress”. Asmara, 7 August 2019- The National Council of Eritrean Americans’ annual conference was enthusiastically opened on Wednesday, 7 August. The conference was continuing till today in the Bay Area, California under the themes “Consolidating our Future” and “Resilience for Higher Progress”. The Conference was officially opened by Minster of Justice, Ms. Fauzia Hashim, Eritrean Embassy representative in the US, and NCEA Leadership. The conference was being attended by more than 500 attendants. Speaking at the event via Skype from Asmara, Eritrea, Presidential advisor and Head of PFDJ Political Affairs, Mr Yemane Gebreab said that this annual conference  is unique for it was conducted following the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebration of the establishment of Sawa Military Training Center and the beginning of the National Service Program. Indicating that the conference has significant contribution in nurturing unity and the noble national values to the young generation as well as exchanging experiences and discussion on the objective situation in the homeland. Mr. Yamane also gave briefing focusing on the objective situation in the homeland as well as the role and contribution of nationals in the Diaspora in the nation building process. The three-day conference will be followed by the Festival of nationals in North America.

National School Leaving Exam results announced

The National School Leaving Examination results of the current academic year have been announced today, 6 August. Asmara, 06 August 2019- The National School Leaving Examination results of the current academic year have been announced today, 6 August. According to the report from the Bureau of Standards and Evaluation, National Higher Education and Research Institute, from the total 16,064 students that participated in the examination, around 40.8% of them have passed for degree, diploma and certificate programs. Accordingly the report added that, 15.15 of the participants scored results for degree program while 12.5% for diploma and 13.2% for certificate program. The National School Leaving Examination was conducted from 18 to 23 March 2019 inside the country as well as at the International School of Eritrean communities in Riyadh and Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Mendefera, 08 August 2019- During a tour they conducted to the Fistula Treatment Center at the Mendefera Referral Hospital, the women’s association of the Halhale Agricultural Research Institute have contributed material support to fistula victims. The support included sanitation materials and other materials that are essential to the treatment of the victims. According to the coordinator of the program, the objective of the visit to the Fistula Treatment Center was to extend moral and material support to the victims. Commending that the free of charge treatment the Government is providing to fistula victims is registering promising result, Dr. Habte Hailemelekot, head of the National Fistula Treatment Center, said that many of the victims have received proper treatment and are leading normal way of life. Dr. Habte went on to say that under age marriages, FGM and other harmful practices are the main causes for the prevalence of fistula problem and called on the public, administrations and stakeholders to reinforce participation in the effort to avoid harmful practices.

A workshop aimed at improving the quality of crop seeds through applying various methods was conducted in Barentu on 6 August. Barentu, 8 August 2019- A workshop aimed at improving the quality of crop seeds through applying various methods was conducted in Barentu on 6 August. At the workshop that was attended by representatives of farmers and agricultural experts, Mr. Hagos Gebremariam, head of seeds quality control in the region, said that the objective of the workshop was to increase the understanding of farmers so that they use quality and draught and diseases resistant seeds and thereby boost agricultural production. Indicating that developing select seeds and strengthening quality control have significant contribution in boosting agricultural production, Mr. Kesete Eyob and Zenawi Tesfabrhan, agricultural experts, called on farmers to apply the advice they are provided by agricultural experts in their daily farming activities. The participants on their part adopted various recommendations that could have important input in the effort to develop and control crops seeds and called for regular and timely quality control activities and follow-up by agricultural experts.

Eritrean nationals from Diaspora that were here to take part at the Silver Jubilee anniversary celebration of the establishment of Sawa Military Training Center and the beginning of the National Service Program have visited the Gerset Dam and the developmental activities in the area. Asmara, 07 August 2019- Eritrean nationals from Diaspora that were here to take part at the Silver Jubilee anniversary celebration of the establishment of Sawa Military Training Center and the beginning of the National Service Program have visited the Gerset Dam and the developmental activities in the area. The 200 participants of the tour were from various European countries, the US, the Middle East and other countries. Upon arrival at Gerset Dam, the visitors were accorded warm welcome by the residents and were provided briefing on the various developmental activities being conducted in the area. The participants commending for the effort the Eritrean Government is exerting to build dams in various areas of the country with a view to collect every drop water, expressed appreciation for the developmental activities being conducted in Gerset area. They also expressed readiness to contribute due part in the national development drives.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Temesgen Tirfe, Chairman of the Holydays Coordinating Committee, said that the festival is unique for it was conducted at the occasion of the Silver Jubilee celebration of the establishment of Sawa Military Training Center and the beginning of the National Service Program. Indicating that the festival has significant contribution in nurturing unity and bequeathing the noble national values to the young generation as well as exchanging experiences and discussion on the objective situation in the homeland, Mr. Temesgen expressed appreciation to those that contributed in the success of the festival. The meeting that was held at the State Palace was focused on the development of bilateral relations between Eritrea and Saudi Arabia as well as security of the Red Sea region. Seminar focusing on the contribution of the National Service Program in safeguarding the national sovereignty as well as nurturing national values among the youth was conducted to participants of the Silver Jubilee anniversary of the establishment of the Sawa Military Training Center and the beginning of the National Service Program.   Asmara, 05 August 2019- Seminar focusing on the contribution of the National Service Program in safeguarding the national sovereignty as well as nurturing national values among the youth was conducted to participants of the Silver Jubilee anniversary of the establishment of the Sawa Military Training Center and the beginning of the National Service Program. The seminar was conducted by Maj. Gen. Teklai Habteselasie, Commander of the Eritrean Air Force. Indicating that the sustainability of the love of country, commitment and culture of work that has been nurtured during the armed struggle for independence was found paramount important after independence, Maj. Gen. Teklai said that the Government of Eritrea issued a proclamation in 1994 for the establishment of the National Service Program and that has greatly contributed in inculcating the noble values among the Eritrean youth. Maj. Gen. Teklai went on to say that the National Service Program has also significantly contributed in consolidating unity and common understanding of the Eritrean youth and in the eradication of sub-national outlooks. In related news, Ms. Askalu Menkorios, Minister of Tourism, also conducted seminar on 4 August focusing on the participation of Eritrean women in the National Service Program. Minister Askalu said that the number of female participation from the 1st to 32nd rounds of the national service was about 127 thousand and that was 21% of the total participants of the program. Minister Askalu also gave extensive briefing on the contribution of Eritrean women during the armed struggle for independence, in safeguarding the national sovereignty and nation building process. Indicating that the Eritrean Government has a long time ago issued a legal proclamation for the abolition of harmful practices. Minister Askalu called for strengthening participation of all sectors of the society to that effect. Let. Col. Dawit Mehreteab, Commander of the Military Academy, also conducted seminar on “Sawa: Education and Soft Power Center”.

NSP official Silver Jubilee celebration concludes

The official celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of Sawa Military Training Center and the launching of the National Service Program that was held from 2 to 4 August in Sawa under the theme “Sawa: The Perfect Choice for Sustainability” concluded with patriotic zeal. Asmara, 05 August 2019- The official celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of Sawa Military Training Center and the launching of the National Service Program that was held from 2 to 4 August in Sawa under the theme “Sawa: The Perfect Choice for Sustainability” concluded with patriotic zeal. According to the report presented by the Deputy Commander of the National Service Training Center, Let. Col. Temesgen Samuel over 12 thousand members of the national service, artist and others participated in the various programs staged at the celebration event including in book preparation, cultural and artistic performances, seminars, carnival show, military parade as well as in the preparation of documentary films and sports competitions among others. Speaking at the concluding event, Ms. Askalu Menkorios, Minister of Tourism, said that the programs staged during the three-day celebration have portrayed the noble societal values and culture of the Eritrean people. Indicating that the members of the 32nd round of the National service and the 10th round of the Vocational Training Center have graduated at the time of the new era unfolding in the region, Minister Askalu called on the graduates to take advantage of the opportunities provided. The graduation ceremony of the members of the 32nd round of National Service and 10th round of the Vocational Training Center was attended by a number of nationals from inside the country and abroad.

President Isaias accompanied by ministers, PFDJ officials and Military Commanders and other officials visited the various sections of the training center and machineries put in place as well as materials produced by the students and was provided briefing by the students.

In its 10th commencement, the Sawa Vocational Training Center has graduated 909 students including 420 females in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki, Mr. Alamin Mohammed Seid, Secretary of the PFDJ as well as parents and a number of nationals. Sawa, 03 August 2019- In its 10th commencement, the Sawa Vocational Training Center has graduated 909 students including 420 females in the presence of President Isaias Afwerki, Mr. Alamin Mohammed Seid, Secretary of the PFDJ as well as parents and a number of nationals. The students were provided two years practical and theoretical training in 13 fields of study including Design, Survey, Electricity, Electronics, Water Pipes Installation, Computer Maintenance, Cooling System, Machinery Operation and Maintenance as well as Steel and Wood Work. According to the report presented by Mr. Tesfai Tewolde, director of the center, 99% of the students have successfully completed their education. Mr. Tesfai also expressed appreciation to those that contributed to the development of the center and success of the program. Over all outstanding students and exemplary teachers were provided with medals and other awards by President Isaias Afwerki and certificates for outstanding students from each field of studies by Mr. Alamin Mohammed Seid. The representative of the graduates commending for the opportunity they were provided expressed readiness to live up to the expectation of the people and Government. The event was highlighted by cultural and artistic programs depicting the contribution of Sawa in the past 25 years of its establishment.

Asmara, 01 August 2019- The official celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the establishment of Sawa Military Training Center and the launching of the National Service Program as well as graduation of members of the 32nd round national service was colorfully conducted today, 2 August in Sawa under the theme “Sawa: The Perfect Choice for Sustainability”. At the ceremony in which ministers, senior PFDJ officials, Army Commanders, parents, as well as a number of nationals from inside the country and abroad took part, President Isaias Afwerki paid tribute to those that sacrificed their lives to their country and people and those that made immense contribution in the national development drives and congratulated the graduating members of the 32nd round of the national service.President Isaias went on to say that the celebration is being held at a time of the beginning of a new era and that requires thorough review of the experience gained in the past quarter century and consolidate effort and commitment in the national development effort. President Isaias also said “victory as yesterday is on our side”.Indicating that the objective of the national service program is to nurture youth ready for ensuring the sustainability of a proud and developed country as well as nurturing common understanding, Col. Ezra Woldegebriel, Chairman of the Silver Jubilee celebration committee, expressed appreciation for the strong contribution of the Eritrean people and the Commanders of the training center for their relentless effort in the implementation of the program in the past 25 years as well as the stakeholders for their support.Commander of the Sawa National Service Training Center, Col. Debesai Gide, said that members of the 32nd round national service during their stay in the center have successfully completed their academic education, political and military training  and commended the outstanding performance of female participants.The official celebration was highlighted by military parade and military hardware portraying the contribution of the successive rounds of the national service as well as cultural and artistic performances depicting the contribution of Sawa and the National Service Program in nation building process.

The 21st annual festival in which over ten thousand nationals from all over Europe and Scandinavian countries as well as invited guests and friends of Eritrea took part, was highlighted by vocational workshops, cultural and artistic performances, exhibition as well as seminars regarding homeland objective situations and bazaars among others. Presidential Adviser Mr. Yemane Gebreab organized a seminar on homeland objective situations and charted out Government programs, as well as regional developments and answered questions forwarded by participants. Lt. Col. Getachew Merhatsion, head of Information and Cartography Center at the Office of the President on his part presented an extensive pictorial and Cartographic presentation on the priorities of national development programs and on the short and long term action plan. The report further indicated that several Eritrean professionals and artists also conducted seminars on various topics including healthcare, history, and culture. At the conclusion of the ceremony, awards were handed over to Shingrwa Competition winners, and certificates of recognition to participant nations, regions, communities and associations. stating that this year’s annual festival attests to the resilience demonstrated and sacrifices paid in the realization of the prevailing era of peace and cooperation participants commended all that contributed to the realization of the annual festival.

Speaking at opening event, Mr. Yang Zigang, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Eritrea, said that China always insists a “four-uphold” approach in pursuing cooperation with Africa; uphold sincerity, friendship, equality and common interest and that the new era unfolding in the region will create favorable situation. At the opening ceremony in which a number of nationals from Sweden and various cities in the Scandinavian countries and friends of Eritrea took part, Mr. Alem Teklegiorgis, Chairman of the National Holidays Coordinating Committee, said that the 21st annual festival makes it unique for it is being conducted during the first anniversary of the peace and cooperation agreement signed between Eritrea and Ethiopia as well as on the eve of the 25th anniversary of the beginning of the National Service Program. Mr. Yonas Manna, Charge d’Affairs at the Eritrean Embassy in the Scandinavian countries, said that the annual festival is a forum in which the Eritrean nationals discuss on the objective situation in their homeland and consolidate their unity and readiness to strengthen participation in the national development programs. Presidential Adviser Mr. Yemane Gebarab also visited bazaars staged by all regions and national associations and officially opened the exhibition portraying the way of living of liberation fighters. The festival will continue until 28 July and is being highlighted by cultural and artistic performances by Walta cultural troupe from Eritrea and Eritrean artists from various countries in Europe.

At the program that was organized in cooperation with the UN Offices in Eritrea and partners at the Orotta Referral Hospital was highlighted by planting tree seedlings and a workshop focusing on the contribution of Nelson Mandela and the lesson the youth could learn. Speaking at the event, the Coordinator of the United Nations Offices in Eritrea, Ms. Susan Ngongi said that this year the International Day of Nelson Mandela is being observed under the theme “Action Against Poverty” and called for applying the basic human rights values and development that Nelson Mandela fought for. The panel discussion was attended by representatives of the PFDJ, National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students, Embassy of South Africa, UNDP and the European Union. At the panel extensive discussion was conducted on topics including Role of the Youth vis-à-vis the experiences in developing countries, knowledge that could be gained from the struggle of Nelson Mandela, Role of Youth in the Sustainable Development Goals, as well as Role of the Youth in Combating Poverty. It is to be recalled that the United Nations General Assembly in its Assembly in 10 November 2009 designated 18 July to be observed as International Day of Nelson Mandela.

The celebration that will be conducted until 27 July is being highlighted with seminars, exhibition, general knowledge competition, artistic performances as well as tour to historic sites of the armed struggle and other programs. According to the program, mass marching in which youth and other parts of the society participated was conducted on 24 May from Keren to Juffa, the last battle field in the Anseba region which was conducted until 11 May 1988 against the Derg regime. Briefings were provided by fighters that directly involved in the battle and residents which witnessed the heroic feat demonstrated by the gallant liberation fighters. Speaking at the event, Mr. Zerezgi Dawit, Mayor of Keren, commending the role and contribution of the National Service Program and members of the National Service in nation building process, stated that the objective of the celebration of Silver Jubilee anniversary of Sawa is to bequeath the values of the Eritrean people’s struggle for independence to the young generation, and renew pledge to build a prosperous nation.

According to report, several staff members from the Ministry of Land, Water and Environment, Ministry of Trade and Industry, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Energy and Mines, Livestock and Crops Corporation, as well as Red Sea Corporation attended the one-day workshop organized yesterday, 24 July at the National Confederation of Eritrean Workers Hall. The overall objective of the theoretical and practical two-day training organized for professionals from the government and private sectors is to upgrade the knowledge and skills of stakeholders and technicians to promote sound management of Ozone depleting substances, greenhouse and refrigeration gases among others. Speaking at the workshop, D.G. of Environment, Mr. Mogos Weldeyohaness noting the negative impact of refrigerant gases on depleting Ozone, greenhouse effect, human health, deterioration and environmental degradation said that the training workshop is part of the effort the Ministry has been exerting to equip professionals with the necessary knowledge and skill. Mr. Robel Kibrom, from the Department of Land on his part, indicating that the main purpose of the training and workshop is to upgrade the knowhow of stakeholders and equipthem with timely information, called on all concerned bodies to participate in similar trainings that will be organized in the future. UNIDO representative and trainer, Mr. Marvin Loga on his part pointing out the significance of the training in the protection of Ozone and the environment, stated that the training was effective and successful. Underlining the importance of the training-workshop, the trainees and participants of the workshop called for the sustainable organization of similar training programs.

Indicating that soil and water conservation has significant contribution in redressing the environment and boosting agricultural productivity, Minister Arefaine called on the agricultural experts and administrations to play due part in mobilizing the public. Minister Arefaine also called on farmers to use alternative mechanisms including use of natural fertilizer, construction of water reservoirs as well as to introduce irrigation system. At a report presented focusing on seeds development, livestock development, soil and water conservation as well as land management and others, it was stated that commendable activities have been conducted in the preparation of land for cultivation, soil and water conservation as well as construction of terraces. As regards livestock health, it was reported that 913 livestock have been vaccinated and over 36 thousand received veterinary treatment. More over, according to the report, agricultural machinery help was provided to farmers with fair price, expertise assistance was extended on irrigation farming, follow up and control of incorrect use of pesticides was conducted. The construction of Guila, Tinsha’ai, Dek-Shehai, Kerkash and Mengula dams is in good progress, the report added.

At the meeting conducted in the Northern Red Sea administration hall, Mayor of port city of Massawa, Mr. Haile Asfaha stating that the initiative is part of the effort the civil servants are taking to support the families of the martyrs, said that residents of the Massawa sub zone have taken the responsibility of supporting 27 families and the Association of Taxi owners and staff members of the port will to support the remaining 7 families of the martyrs. The Secretary of PFDJ branch in the Northern Red Sea region, Mr. Haile Teweldeberhan on his part stated that the initiative the nationals took to support families of martyrs attests to the respect and commitment the Eritrean people have towards their martyrs and called on others to follow the noble example. Asmara, 24 July 2019 –Eritreans residing in Stockholm, Sweden, organized under the association ‘Eri-Childhood’ pledged to continue extending support to disabled children. They made the pledge at a meeting they conducted on 23 July with families of the children they supported with wheelchairs. At the ceremony held at the premise of Orotta Referral Hospital in which officials of the Ministry of Health took part, Minister of Health, Ms. Amina Nurhussien stated that the support ‘Eri-Childhood’ is extending attests to the noble Eritrean culture and called on others to follow the footsteps of the association. Members of ‘Eri-Childhood’ also stated that they were grateful to witness the support they sent distributed to the disabled and pledged to send 100 wheelchairs in the near future. ‘Eri-Childhood’ which was established in 2006 has extended 150 wheelchairs in support of disabled children in two phases. The number of members which was only 18 during its establishment has now increased to about 100.

A workshop on the question of youth in the Anseba region has been conducted on 17 July at the Hamelmalo College of Agriculture under the theme “Integrated effort on Youth: Perfect Choice for Effective Outcome”. Keren, 20 July 2019- A workshop on the question of youth in the Anseba region has been conducted on 17 July at the Hamelmalo College of Agriculture under the theme “Integrated effort on Youth: Perfect Choice for Effective Outcome”. The objective of the workshop was to discuss on the experiences gained in addressing the questions of the youth and implementation of the charted out programs targeting the youth. Speaking at the occasion, the Governor of the Anseba region, Mr. Ali Mahmud said that youth equipped with the necessary skill and profession and clear vision will have significant contribution in the nation building process and called on the youth to practically upgrade their skills and strengthen contribution to that effect. Indicating that investing on youth is investing to the future, Mr. Rezene Adonai, Secretary of the PFDJ in the region, called on the concerned institutions to play due part in strengthening organizational capacity, political awareness and unity of the youth so that they play due role in the nation building process. At the workshop research papers were presented including Political Interest of Youth, Role of Extra-Curricula activities and the National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students in the Development of the Youth, Adulthood and its Challenges and Way Forward and on the Objective Situation of Education in the Anseba region. Seminars on the establishment of Sawa and the beginning of the National Service Program were organized in the 16 sub-zones of the Gash Barka region. Barentu, 20 July 2019- Seminars on the establishment of Sawa and the beginning of the National Service Program were organized in the 16 sub-zones of the Gash Barka region. The seminars that were presided by senior official of the Gash Barke region and attended by about 16 thousand residents, youth and members of the Eritrean Defense Forces, briefings were provided on global outlook on the national service program, proclamation of the National Service and its objective in Eritrea, national service in the new era as well as other relevant issues. According to the topics raised at the seminars, the National Service program that was initiated in 1994 was to bequeath the values of the Eritrean people’s struggle for independence to the young generation, nurture competent and work loving youth that adhere to the noble societal values and that plays due role in the implementation of the national development drives as well as consolidating national unity. Big development programs for 2019 and beyond were also presented. A seminar focusing on the role of the national service program in safeguarding national sovereignty and nurturing common national identity was organized in Mendefera. Mendefera, 19 July 2019- A seminar focusing on the role of the national service program in safeguarding national sovereignty and nurturing common national identity was organized in Mendefera. The seminar that was conducted on 17 and 18 July was organized for youth workers in connection with the Silver Jubilee anniversary of the beginning of the National Service Program. At the seminar extensive briefings were presented on the objective and experience of the national service in Eritrea as well as its advantage for the country and citizens vis-à-vis the objective for its establishment. Indicating that the National Service Program was not for military purpose only, the presenters said that the program was initiated 25 years ago with a view to nurture disciplined and committed youth. Pointing out that the heroic feat demonstrated by members of the national service in safeguarding the national sovereignty attests to the heroic values and love of country they bequeathed from the past generation, the presenters said that the new era of peace and cooperation is the result of the heavy sacrifice they paid for the people and country. According to reports, celebrations in connection with Silver Jubilee of the beginning of the National Service Program are underway in the 12 sub-zones of the Southern region under the theme “Sawa: The Perfect Choice for Sustainability”.

Ethiopian Prime Minister returns home concluding two-day official visit

Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, returned home in the morning hours of today, 19 July concluding two day official visit to Eritrea. Asmara, 19 July 2019- Dr. Abiy Ahmed, Prime Minister of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, returned home in the morning hours of today, 19 July concluding two day official visit to Eritrea. At a meeting the two leaders held focusing on the bilateral relations and cooperation as well as regional developments of interest to the two countries, they agreed to jointly work to enhance the all-rounded cooperation between the two countries as well as for the regional stability and cooperation. Speaking to reporters on 18 July, Presidential Advisor Mr. Yemane Gebreab stated that President Isaias and Prime Minister Abiy held extensive discussion on further deepening the ongoing vibrant peace process and all-rounded cooperation between the two countries on the basis of the five-point Joint Declaration of Peace and Friendship signed on 9 July 2018 in Asmara. Mr. Yemane went on to say that the two leaders further agreed to broaden the positive developments of the peace process and robust cooperation underway in the Horn of Africa. Noting that the historic peace agreement was signed a year ago, Minister of Finance of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Mr. Ahmed Shide on his part sated that the two governments have agreed to reinforce the peace and cooperation agreement and work together in the diplomatic development, transportation and communications, as well as infrastructure and economic activities especially in the development of ports and land transportation sectors. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed was accompanied by Mr. Ahmed Shide, Minister of Finance of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, Dr. Shumete Gizaw, Director of the Office of the Prime Minister and Mr. Tewolde Gebremariam, CEO of the Ethiopian Airlines.
